These five pieces for piano were composed by Don Robertson in March, 1967, while studying composition with modern composer Morton Feldman in New York City. With these compositions, he presented a new style of minimalism, incorporating much that he had learned from his teacher. Except for the first part of Number Two, which uses the style developed in Morton Feldman’s composition called “Last Piece”, these compositions’ rhythm is tightly controlled. Robertson also inherited composing very quiet music from Feldman.
