Don Robertson composed this highly experimental work while a student in the extension division of Juilliard School of Music in New York City. He was simultaneously studying privately with avant-garde composer Morton Feldman. Don was experimenting with a type of instrumental scoring where the temporal length of note values was determined by the note’s position on the page (the white space between notes determined the length of time). He had purchased a signal generator, used for testing electronic equipment. It could create a sine wave whose pitch could be changed with a nob. This became the focus of the composition, accompanied by a percussionist and a keyboardist. It is kind of a concerto for signal generator. This music was never performed.
