Constructions

by Don Robertson (1967)

“Constructions” was composed by Don Robertson in 1967 for flute, guitar and bass. It was premiered that year in San Diego by the Bertram Turetzky Ensemble. Turetzky is a distinguished emeritus professor of music at the University of California, San Diego.
It is a complex and difficult modern composition. Don Robertson’s teacher at that time, composer Morton Feldman, offered it to Turetzky, who was known for performing difficult, modern compositions, and Turetzky decided to perform it.
Within a year, Robertson will renounce composing modern music and composing with discords.
The cover art was by Don Robertson’s ex-wife, Suzanne.
