This is a Musical Kaleidoscope show dedicated to exploring the greatness of the purely American music phenomenon called bluegrass. We begin with bluegrass classics filmed from the 1960s, then bring it forward to 21st-century bluegrass music performed by youthful bands with a new sound.
Glen Campbell - Concert in Sioux Falls
Glen Campbell was one of America’s greatest talents. Like Nat “King” Cole, music and entertaining was just a natural part of his personality, and like Nat, he started out as an instrumentalist, later becoming known for his incredible vocals. This 2001 concert in Sioux Falls, South Dakota is our favorite, exhibiting all of his abilities and talent in a wonderful way. (1 hour, 20 minutes)
Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver - Through the Years
Doyle Lawson is an American traditional bluegrass and Southern gospel musician who is best known as the mandolin player, vocalist, producer, and leader of the 6-man group Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver. “Through the Years” is a full show recorded in 2005 for a DVD release, and celebrates 25 years of Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver with a concert that reunited many of the members who have passed through his lineups in that time. The Nashville Sound and Beyond
The genre of country music called The Nashville Sound was prominent during the 1950s and featured smooth strings and vocals. Televised performances by Sonny James, Ferlin Husky, Jim Reeves, Marty Robins, Patsy Cline, Bobby Bare, and others capture the flavor of the Nashville Sound. (1 hour)
