During 1967, Don Robertson discovered that there was a root dischord that formed the basis of what he began calling negative music, the discordant, so-called “contemporary classical”, or “modern,” music that he was composing under the tutelage of his teacher, composer Morton Feldman. He called this four-note chord the duochord. These two piano compositions were written at that time.
